Chiran is the name of a town in Kagoshima prefecture in the southern island of Kyushu. Chiran has a warm and humid climate where deep mists contribute to this tea's flavor. The soil in this area is unique because it is made of volcanic ash from the active volcano, Sakurajima, making the soil particularly good for tea growing. Den's Tea Fukamushi Sencha Chiran is also unique because it's made of special tea cultivar called Asatsuyu. Asatsuyu is often described as "like Gyokuro" even though it is Sencha.
